What is the NHCI Signal?

The NHCI Signal is not a new indicator - it is a smarter way to read the one you already have. It combines two dimensions into a single contextual state:

  • Zone - where the score sits on the 0–100 scale (determined by score thresholds)
  • Direction - whether the score is rising, flat, or falling (determined by proprietary multi-timeframe momentum analysis)

Together they produce one of 12 contextual signal states - each with a documented historical context for cycle positioning. The Signal eliminates zone ambiguity by adding direction. You still make your own decisions.

The critical insight: 37% of all days historically classified as 'Accumulation zone' were actually the score falling from higher levels - not recovering from the bottom. Without direction, the same zone label misleads nearly 4 out of 10 times.

The 5 Zones

Each zone reflects a structurally distinct condition in the Bitcoin market - validated against years of real on-chain, macro, and sentiment data going back to 2017. These thresholds are not arbitrary - they are calibrated to historical market behavior and refined through multiple full cycles.

0 – 35
🌊 BOTTOM - Bottom
Maximum fear. On-chain shows capitulation. The rarest zone - appears only at true market extremes. Every major multi-year bull run in Bitcoin history began here.
35 – 45
🌱 ACUMULACIÓN - Accumulation
Recovery phase. The most misread zone - quality depends entirely on direction. Rising = buy window. Falling = deterioration.
45 – 65
BULL - Active Bull Market
The dominant market state - where Bitcoin spends most of its existence. Includes full bull runs, corrections within the bull, and consolidations. Early BULL (45–55) and late BULL (55–65) behave very differently - direction tells you which one you are in.
65 – 75
HOT - Elevated Risk Zone
Elevated risk. All Bitcoin ATH cycles passed through here. The gradient between bull market and danger - time to start reducing exposure gradually. The 2024 ($73k) and 2025 Jan ($104k) tops both confirmed here.
75 – 100
NEVERHODL™
Maximum risk. Only fires at genuine cycle extremes - the rarest and most critical signal. December 2017, April 2021, November 2021 - all confirmed here, all followed by severe bear markets. When the signal says NeverHodl™: the system has spoken.

Direction Matters More Than the Zone

Direction is derived from proprietary multi-timeframe momentum analysis of the NHCI score - engineered to filter out short-term noise while remaining responsive to real structural shifts in the cycle.

38
ACUM ASCENDING
Score climbing from 28. Cycle recovering from bottom. Best risk/reward entry window. On-chain confirms accumulation.
momentum ↑ rising
38
ACUM LATERAL
Score oscillating around 38. No clear direction. Wait for confirmation before acting. Common during extended base-building.
momentum ~0 pts / 14d
38
ACUM DESCENDING
Score falling from 55. Market deteriorating toward this zone - NOT recovering from it. This is not a buy signal. Represents 37% of all ACUM days in history.
momentum ↓ falling

The same score (38) produces three completely different signals. The zone gives you the map. The direction tells you which way you are walking on it.

The 12 Signal States

Each state is a unique combination of zone + direction. The color shows overall risk level: favorable · neutral/watch · caution · danger.

Zone Dir. Signal State Risk Implication
FONDO Active Bottom LOW Multi-year entry. Scale in gradually.
FONDO Bottom Base LOW-MED Bottom forming, not confirmed. Wait for ↑.
FONDO Free Fall HIGH Still falling. Do not catch the knife.
ACUM Optimal Accumulation LOW Historically best risk/reward. Cycle structure recovering.
ACUM Lateral Base MED Consolidating. Watch for direction break.
ACUM Deterioration HIGH Falling from BULL. Avoid buying.
BULL Bull Confirmed MED Trend intact. Hold, trail stops up.
BULL Consolidation MED Normal mid-cycle pause. Maintain exposure.
BULL Cooling Bull MED-HIGH Trend weakening. Reduce 20–30%.
HOT Growing Risk HIGH Approaching cycle top. Reduce significantly.
HOT Partial Relief MED-HIGH Coming down from extreme. Risk reducing.
NH™ ↑→↓ NeverHodl™ EXTREME Cycle extreme confirmed. Maximum defense. No long exposure.

Retail Investor Guide - Step by Step

You do not need to understand all 37 indicators. You need to understand the Signal. Here is how to use it:

  1. 01
    Open the Dashboard
Go to neverhodl.com/dashboard. At the top you see the NHCI Score (0–100) and the Signal badge. The Signal badge shows you the current state name - e.g. 'Acumulación Óptima ↑' or 'Bull Confirmado ↑'.
  2. 02
    Read the Color First
Green badge = cycle structure historically consistent with favorable conditions. Yellow = mixed signals, proceed with caution. Orange/Red = cycle structure historically consistent with elevated risk. This is educational context - not a buy or sell instruction.
  3. 03
    Read the Signal Name
'Optimal Accumulation' = the system sees a historically favorable entry window. 'Deterioration' = the same score level but falling - wrong time to buy. The name tells you the full story in two words.
  4. 04
    Cross-Check the Trend Arrow
The ↑ ↓ → arrow next to the score confirms direction. If badge says 'Bull Confirmed ↑' and the arrow is ↑, that is two independent confirmations of the same signal.
  5. 05
    Check Once a Week
The Signal updates hourly but market cycles move slowly. Checking daily adds noise, not insight. Weekly is enough. The signal state rarely changes in less than 5–7 days.

The most common retail mistake: buying 'ACUM zone' without checking direction. 37% of ACUM days are the market falling INTO the zone from above - not recovering from the bottom. With the Signal system, 'Deterioration ↓' tells you clearly: this is not a buy.

⚠️ Educational tool - not financial advice. The NHCI Signal is a cycle-position indicator. It does not predict price movements, timing, or individual asset performance. Always do your own research. Past cycle behavior does not guarantee future results.

Futures Without Leverage - Position Sizing Guide

Without leverage, the cost of a wrong directional call is recoverable. The Signal provides cycle context that traders historically use for position sizing - not a directive on whether to trade, but a framework for how much directional exposure is historically consistent with each cycle state. This is educational reference - not financial advice. Always consult a qualified advisor.

Signal State Suggested Stance Max Size
Active BottomHistorically consistent with long entry, gradual sizing60–80%
Optimal AccumulationHistorically best risk/reward for long exposure80–100%
Bottom Base / Lateral BaseHistorically consistent with caution, await ↑ confirmation20–40%
Bull ConfirmedHistorically consistent with maintaining long exposure70–100%
ConsolidationHistorically consistent with reduced sizing, tighter risk management50–70%
Cooling BullHistorically consistent with partial exposure reduction40–60%
Growing RiskHistorically consistent with significant exposure reduction20–40%
Partial ReliefHistorically consistent with neutral stance, close monitoring30–50%
NeverHodl™Historically consistent with zero long directional exposure0%
Deterioration / Free FallHistorically consistent with flat or hedged positioning0–10%
⚠️ NOTE FOR FUTURES TRADERS - NH™ ZONE

In the NeverHodl™ zone (score ≥75), some futures traders - operating without leverage - study this as a historically elevated-risk environment for long exposure. Every confirmed major cycle top in 9 years of data passed through this zone. However: NH™ is not a short signal. The zone can persist for weeks or months. Premature short positioning has historically been costly when cycle momentum continues. If you operate short positions, the Signal Direction within NH™ matters critically: NH™ ↑ (score still rising) is structurally different from NH™ ↓ (score already turning). This is context, not a trade recommendation. NFA.

FAQ

How often does the Signal State change? +

The zone updates every hour. The direction is a smoothed momentum measure - it changes slowly to avoid noise. Typically a state transition takes 3–7 days to confirm, not hours.

Can the Signal show 'Optimal Accumulation' while price keeps falling? +

Yes. The Signal measures cycle structure, not price direction. 'Optimal Accumulation' means on-chain and macro structure is historically consistent with accumulation - not that price cannot fall further. This is a context tool, not a price prediction.

Why did BTC hit $113k in Oct 2025 with the Signal at 'Bull' (score 54)? +

A high price does not equal a high score. In late 2025, M2 global expansion and declining bond yields provided macro tailwinds that offset the price appreciation. The system correctly identified structural risk was NOT extreme - and the cycle continued. This is the core difference between price and cycle position.

How often does NeverHodl™ state fire? +

Based on 9 years of BTC data (3,414 days): the NH™ zone (score ≥75) has been active 15.5% of the time - about 530 days total. Major confirmed extremes: Dec 2017 (score 89), Apr 2021 (score 88.7), Nov 2021 (score 80.9). Not every NH™ entry is a cycle ATH, but every major cycle ATH has passed through NH™.
